An elegant animal in stride, a vehicle used to carry goods and a symbol of privilege, wealth, aristocracy. When I think of my ancient history lessons at school, many years ago, I am reminded of how significant the horse was in Ancient Greek culture. The creation of Poseidon, the horse symbolises wealth, power and status. The image can readily be seen displayed across ancient temples, decorative vases, cast in iron and carved in stone.

Walking on the cobblestone streets, I follow the ancient roads of Athina that lead up to the breath taking Acropolis. I’m surrounded by beautiful shops and restaurants and souvenirs that delight. With many representations of a Grecian horse, I choose this one.
